At the Threshold, Restoring the Vessel

2026 Grief Rituals

Expanding our capacities to replenish ourselves as we navigate our apprenticeship with sorrow.

This spring, we invite 20 participants to gather on sacred land in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York for a grief retreat and ritual, offered in the lineage of Malidoma Somé and Francis Weller.

To witness and welcome nature’s awakening from winter slumber.

To align our bodies to the patience of geologic time.

To authentically and tenderly hold our grief and sorrow in the presence of our sudden village.

Join us for three days…

A facilitated, in-person residential grief retreat and ritual

former ritual participants say…

Historically, humans have gathered together to metabolize and assimilate our deep emotional experiences, to empty what Francis Weller calls our “communal cup” of sorrow. Our modern culture saturates us with conveniences and velocities, but deprives us of the slowness and togetherness we need to unburden our hearts so that we might create more space for aliveness and joy.

There is something feral about grief, something essentially outside the ordained and sanctioned behaviors of our culture. Because of that, grief is necessary to the vitality of the soul. Contrary to our fears, grief is suffused with life-force…
